Further minimum wage hikes are possible and will be made throughout 2025 if necessary, Turkish Labour and Social Security Minister Vedat Işıkhan has said, linking the move to price and inflation developments in the coming months.
‘As a government, we have to protect the purchasing power of our citizens,’ Işıkhan stressed during an interview with the Habertürk news channel, which was echoed by several Turkish media outlets.
‘We expect the inflation outlook to improve in 2025. We will see inflation coming down. Macro economy data also indicate this. However, if something goes wrong, an increase in the minimum wage could be addressed again in July,’ the minister explained.
Turkish government announced at the end of 2024 a 30% increase in the net minimum wage by 2025 to 22,104 liras (610 euros) per month. In its medium-term economic programme for the years 2025 to 2027, Turkey’s executive expects inflation to fall to 17.5% by the end of 2025, falling to 9.7% in 2026 and 7% in 2027.
