Istanbul, Gayrettepe-Kağıthane section of the airport metro line

Final section of metro to Istanbul Airport inaugurated

Turkish President Erdoğan inaugurated on Monday the final section of the metro line connecting the new Istanbul Airport with the centre of the Turkish metropolis, which will make it possible to connect both destinations in just 30 minutes thanks to the use of the fastest metro cars in Turkey, with a top speed of 120 km/h.

The inauguration of the Gayrettepe-Kağıthane section – with a total length of 3.5 km – is a milestone in the connection between Turkey’s economic centre and its main international airport, and effectively extends the metro line between the metropolis and Istanbul Airport to a total length of 37.5 km. The new Gayrettepe metro station, the 9th and last station of the metro line between Istanbul and the airport, stands out as the deepest station on the entire line, built at a depth of 72 metres.
