Istanbul, traffic jam

2 million trips after the end of coronavirus restrictions

Since the Turkish government lifted most of the restrictions imposed in March by the coronavirus pandemic on Monday, including a ban on travelling between provinces or leaving cities such as Istanbul and Ankara, there have been nearly 2 million displacements, mainly towards tourist destinations on the Mediterranean coast such as Antalya or Muğla, and also in the Black Sea. The massive road exodus together with police controls to take drivers’ temperatures, have created long traffic jams.
