Turkey to open tender for Istanbul Canal project in 2021

The Turkish government is determined to carry out this year the tender for the works of the mega project Istanbul Canal, which aims to build an artificial water canal connecting the Black Sea with the Marmara to alleviate maritime traffic in the Bosphorus Strait. Similar to projects such as the Panama Canal or the Suez Canal, the Istanbul Canal will be 43 kilometres long and 400 meters wide and will cross the European side of the Istanbul province, allowing the passage of 185 ships a day. The project is expected to be completed in 5-6 years.
