Istanbul Airport, among the top 5 airports in the world

The new Istanbul Airport will become one of the 5 most important airports in the world in the next 4 years, given that more than 100 million passengers will use its facilities annually, said Kadri Samsunlu, CEO of the İGA consortium that manages the main airport in the Turkish metropolis, who stressed that passenger traffic will reach 75 million this year, up 10% compared to pre-pandemic levels.

“According to our plans, the number of passengers using Istanbul Airport will exceed 100 million in just four years, and it will become one of the top five airports in the world,” Samsunlu said, adding that while 10 years ago there were almost no transit passengers, today they account for 35-40% of all travellers using the airport. Samsunlu also announced the start of construction of a fourth runway that will come into service in 2026, as well as a new general aviation terminal that will begin operations in early 2024.
