From now on, non-passengers can enter the terminal of the Istanbul Airport, without restrictions.
The IGA consortium that operates Istanbul Airport announced yesterday that from now on, non-passengers can now access the terminal to receive or say goodbye to travellers, something that until now they could not do due to the measures imposed by the coronavirus pandemic.
In a statement released on Tuesday, IGA reported that from now on people who are not going to take a plane, but who want to accompany passengers who are going to take a flight or who land at the airport, will be able to enter the facilities by six entrances, without the need to justify their presence with plane tickets.
Although the coronavirus pandemic has hit the aviation industry hard, Istanbul Airport – which replaced the old Atatürk airport in 2019 – welcomed nearly 37 million passengers in 2021, thus becoming the busiest airport in Europe by second year in a row.
The decision adopted by the Istanbul Airport operator on non-passengers comes after the Turkish government recently eliminated most restrictions – except for the use of a mask – and relaxed others, such as quarantine periods or the requirement of tests for unvaccinated. However, those who do not have the vaccine or at least two doses, still have to present a negative test to take a plane.
