In the 16th round of the Turkish Super League, Fenerbahçe on Monday once again imposed their dominance with a 4-0 win over Konyaspor in the final match of the day at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium in Istanbul.
Domenico Tedesco‘s side dominated the game from start to finish. The Yellow Canaries took the lead through Anderson Talisca’s 27th-minute penalty after a foul by Uğurcan Yazğılı on Jhon Duran was flagged by the VAR, making it 1-0 to open the scoring.
Just two minutes later, Mert Müldür extended the lead before the break with a not unlucky lob that Konyaspor goalkeeper Bahadır Han Güngördü found completely unstoppable. Before the end of the first half, Talisca was again on hand to extend the lead to 3-0 with a stunning left-footed curling shot from the edge of the box after a great delivery from Spanish Marco Asensio.
With the second half drawing to a close, Asensio was again on hand to finish from the penalty spot from a loose ball in the box after Güngördü’s run-out, making it 4-0 and sealing the night’s victory.
Fenerbahçe fans criticising Domenico Tedesco
After the match, Italian coach Domenico Tedesco showed his satisfaction with his team’s great play and attacking attitude, despite which many fans expressed on social media their dissatisfaction with a result that could have been even greater due to Fenerbahçe‘s overwhelming dominance and the clear scoring chances during the match, especially in the first half. “We could have scored 7, and even 10, but we don’t even attack”, “Tedesco must have told the players not to score any more” or “In the 2nd half we fans fell asleep” were some of the comments that could be read on social networks.
With this result, Fenerbahçe gets three vital points in the title race to keep the contention with Galatasaray, who has only suffered one defeat this season and on Saturday did not fail, also scoring 4 goals on its visit to Antalya. The Canaries are just three points behind the reigning league champions and also take second place from Trabzonspor, who drew 3-3 at home to Beşiktaş on Sunday. Konyaspor, meanwhile, has now lost for the eighth time this season and drops to 12th place in the standings.
