Pumpkin jam is a very typical Turkish dessert to make in winter, when pumpkin is in season. It can be served with different nuts (walnuts, pistachios, hazelnuts, almonds, etc.), and also with cream or cinnamon powder.
Ingredients (for 4 people)
- 500 g pumpkin (peeled and cleaned)
- 300 g sugar
- 100 g walnuts
- 1 cinnamon stick (optional)
- 4 cloves
Preparation
To prepare the pumpkin jam, first peel the pumpkin and cut it into pieces about the size of walnuts. Clean them and place them in a saucepan.
Then cover the pieces we have put in the pan with the sugar, and add the cloves and cinnamon stick. Cover and leave to stand for 3 hours. It is important not to use water, as the pumpkin will release its own juice.
After three hours, put the casserole on a low heat for one hour, with the lid on for half an hour and the other half an hour open. After this time, turn off the heat and leave it to cool.
Finally, place the prepared pumpkin pieces on a serving dish and put the walnuts on top (they can be whole or ground).
And it is ready to eat…
Enjoy!
