At least 7 people have been arrested in Turkey on charges of selling information to Mossad, the Israeli secret service, Turkish security sources said on Friday. The arrests came after a joint operation by counter-terrorism units of the Turkish police and the National Intelligence Organisation (MİT), and followed a series of raids in the cities of Istanbul and Izmir.
The investigation carried out by the MİT found that the Israel’s Mossad used private detectives to collect information and documents on various “targets”‘” in Turkey, which were followed up by obtaining photographs and recordings. Last January, some 30 people suspected of working for Israel’s secret services were arrested in a similar operation, uncovering a network of “collaborators” – mainly people of Arab origin living in Turkey – ordered to spy on and “neutralise” several targets in Turkey.
