Nearly 120,000 tourists – exactly 116,876 – visited Pamukkale during the 9 days that lasted the holidays for the Feast of Sacrifice, one of the most important in the Islamic festive calendar, which ended last Sunday. According to data from the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the natural travertine terraces of Pamukkale and the ruins of Hierapolis located above it – both UNESCO World Heritage Sites – were the most visited historical sites during the holidays, during which Turkey’s monuments and historical sites received more than 1.4 million tourists.
After the duo formed by Pamukkale-Hierapolis, the ruins of Ephesus – also a World Heritage Site – occupied the 2nd place with more than 100,000 visitors, while the third place was for the duo formed by the ruins and beaches of Olympos, in Antalya, which welcomed more than 41,000 visitors during the 9 days.
