The set formed by the white travertine terraces of Pamukkale, and the ruins of the ancient city of Hierapolis, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, was the most visited historical place in Turkey by tourists in 2021, with more than 1,200,000 visits. The ruins of Ephesus ranked 2nd with 673,000 visits, while the third place went to the archaeological site of Zelve-Paşabağları, in Cappadocia, which received some 608,000 tourists last year.
