315 women died as victims of gender-based violence in Turkey in 2023

A recent report published by a well-known association for the fight against gender violence reveals that at least 315 women died victims of male violence in Turkey in 2023, revealing a worrying picture of the problem of femicides in the Eurasian country.

The study, entitled “Femicides and suspicious deaths of women in 2023“, and published by the Stop Femicide Platform, states that in 2023 almost one woman was killed every day in Turkey. According to the report, based on information and media reports, at least 248 cases of suspicious deaths of women were registered in Turkey last year.

The report states that 35% of the women killed in 2023 in Turkey were between 19 and 35 years old, and that 41% of the women died as victims of gender-based violence at the hands of their husbands. In addition, 28 women were killed despite having a protection order, and 30 were killed while in the middle of divorce proceedings.
