The World Bank announced yesterday that it will provide 1.78 billion dollars to Turkey to help to finance relief and reconstruction efforts after the massive earthquakes in the southeast of the country. 780 million dollars will be available to the Turkish government immediately, from two loans that the World Bank already has delivered for projects in Turkey. “The aid will be used to rebuild basic infrastructure at the municipal level,” explained the WB president, David Malpass. In addition, an additional fund of 1 billion dollars of aid is being prepared. “Turkey’s needs are immense,” said Humberto Lopez, director for Turkey at the World Bank.
