Israel’s Chief Rabbi David Lau has asked Jewish rescuers, sent by the Israeli government to Turkey to help save victims after devastating earthquakes, to also work on the Sabbath, the weekly Jewish religious holiday that forbids any kind of work from Friday sundown to Saturday sunset. “A shocking tragedy has occurred this week in Turkey… If there is a chance to save lives and find survivors, rescue teams must continue their activity,” Lau announced. Israel currently has 450 first responders in Turkey, as well as a field hospital in Kahramanmaraş, the epicenter of the earthquakes.
