Coinciding with the last days of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, Muhsin Kara, a Turkish muezzin who serves as imam at a mosque in the Turkish province of Sivas, has become famous after winning an international contest this week for the best call to prayer (adhan), celebrated in Saudi Arabia. Kara and another Turkish muezzin, Alpcan Çelik, won first and second prizes in the contest. Kara’s recitation was such that he made the jury cry.
