For the first time in 88 years, Hagia Sophia hosted the collective night prayers of Tarawih, traditional during Ramadan, with the attendance of thousands of Muslim faithful. In July 2020 and after 86 years operating as a museum, Hagia Sophia was re-consecrated as a mosque; however, due to the coronavirus pandemic, Tarawih prayers could not be held during Ramadan 2021.
