A Turkish tour company has begun organising tours to the Syrian capital Damascus for the first time since the outbreak of the civil war in the neighbouring Arab country. The company Fest Travel has announced that it has opened bookings for a 7-day tour it has names as “Cultural Fusion: Syria”, which would take place between 20 and 27 April 2024: departing from Istanbul, it would stop in Beirut and finally arrive in the Syrian capital.
In addition to Damascus, the tour – at a cost of $1,950 per person – is also expected to include visits to the Syrian cities of Aleppo, Hama, Homs, and even the ruins of ancient Palmyra, which suffered serious damage in 2015 after being captured by Daesh. The Turkish tourism company recalls that they were already organising trips to Syria before the outbreak of the conflict, and they assure that they are always informed about the security situation in Syria in order to change the route if necessary. “Damascus is the most important city of Islamic civilisation, with the Umayyad Mosque, the Al-Azem Palace, the Hamidiye Bazaar… and is the city with the most Ottoman influence in the Middle East,” explains the tour’s advertising.
