Atatürk's death anniversary in Turkey

Turkey paralyzes today to remember Atatürk

Millions of people came to a standstill across Turkey today at 9:05 a.m., as sirens across the country sounded in unison to remember the exact moment when Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, died in 1938 at 57 years of age. Although Atatürk died in a room in the Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul, his body was transferred days later to the new capital of the country, Ankara, where in 1953 he was buried in his current mausoleum, Anıtkabir.
