”Turkey is world’s 5th most dangerous earthquake country”

Turkey is one of the 5 countries in the world most vulnerable to earthquakes, says Professor Sepenta Naimi, head of the Department of Civil Engineering at Istanbul Altınbaş University, who stresses the importance of taking preventive measures in construction, prohibiting illegal buildings and increasing inspections, especially in buildings built before the year 2000, to mitigate the destructive power of earthquakes. “Recent earthquakes have increased the accumulation of energy on the Anatolian faults… The danger signals in these regions are increasing,” warned Naimi, who recalled that Turkey sits on multiple active faults. “There is no price that can compensate for the loss of life. Money can be recovered, but lives lost will never return,” he concluded.
