Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu announced yesterday that Turkey has proposed to the UN to open two more border crossings with Syria to bring humanitarian aid to that country, a proposal that the United Nations is still considering. Ankara has also opened its airspace to aid planes bound for Syria, where the death toll from the earthquakes in neighboring Turkey is around 3,600. The so-called White Helmets, who are organizing assistance in rebel areas, denounce the “catastrophic” absence of UN aid and accuse it of sending assistance only to areas under the control of the Assad regime.
