Turkish authorities have identified the two terrorists who carried out yesterday’s attack in Ankara that left five dead and 22 injured at a Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI/TUSAŞ) industrial complex, confirming that both are members of the PKK terrorist group, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced on Thursday.
Quoted by Turkish media, Yerlikaya announced via social media that both terrorists had been identified, with the identity of the man being Ali Örek (aka Rojger), while the woman has reportedly been identified as Mine Sevjin Alçiçek. Both are PKK members known to the Turkish authorities.
‘It has become clear that the two terrorists who attacked the TUSAŞ facility are members of the PKK. We are determined to eradicate this treacherous terrorist organisation that threatens the unity, solidarity and peace of our country from our lands. I once again ask God to have mercy on our martyrs (killed in the attack) and wish a speedy recovery to the injured,’ the minister said.
Turkish media reported that the terrorist identified as Alçiçek is mentioned in 2014 and 2015 in Turkish media as a co-chair of the defunct Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in the southeastern city of Hakkari. The HDP, which many in Turkey accuse of being the political branch of the PKK, was replaced in 2023 by the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM) – which contested local elections in March – to represent Kurdish nationalism due to the investigation opened that year for alleged links to the PKK against the HDP, which was facing possible closure in courts.
Örek and Alçiçek were shot dead by special forces after entering yesterday an industrial and aerospace complex on the outskirts of Ankara, where the two terrorists detonated a car bomb and fired shots, causing numerous casualties and taking several hostages until they were killed. In response to the attack, Turkish army has bombed near 50 PKK targets in Iraq and Syria in recent hours.
