Istanbul, first snow

Winter is coming: first snow arrives in Istanbul

Winter is coming: the first snow has arrived in Istanbul, causing a significant impact on life in the city. Many Istanbul residents were surprised on Sunday to find a white landscape in various parts of the city. The snow, which began in the early hours of Saturday morning into Sunday, later turned into a mixture of rain and snow accompanied by a storm that adversely affected the city, especially in the higher areas of the Turkish metropolis.

Due to the intermittent snowfall, there were traffic complications and other adverse effects, such as falling trees in some districts: this was the case in the Kanlıca district of Beykoz, where a tree fell on the road and had to be removed by firemen crews. The forecast for the next few days is for rain to continue in Istanbul, but not snow; however, the city authorities remain vigilant and urge residents to stay informed about weather alerts, and to take precautions when travelling.
