A gas explosion in the early hours of the morning in a building in the Beşiktaş district in the heart of Istanbul left one person injured, in an incident that was captured live on a security camera.
Turkish media reported that the explosion occurred at around 5:30 a.m. on the third floor of a five-storey building in the Türkali neighbourhood, where renovation work was reportedly being carried out. The explosion caused the outer façade of the house to explode and shattered window panes in nearby buildings. At least two vehicles parked in the street were damaged by falling chunks of concrete.
Several emergency services, including police, firefighters and medical personnel, immediately rushed to the scene of the gas explosion, where one injured person was evacuated and taken to hospital, although his condition is not serious. Fortunately there were no further casualties as the building was empty during the renovation work. “I was preparing the children for school when there was a detonation. Everyone came out onto the street. There was one injured person, he was in shock,” said a neighbour who witnessed the incident.
