A fire that broke out this Sunday at noon in the historic Vaniköy Mosque, located in the Asian district of Üsküdar in Istanbul, almost completely destroyed the building, which is more than three centuries old. The causes of the fire, in which 5 fire trucks and 3 coastguard boats collaborated in its extinction, are still being investigated. The Vaniköy Mosque, built mainly of wood, was erected in 1665 by the Ottoman scholar Vani Mehmet Efendi.
