The Suleiman Mosque in Istanbul, Süleymaniye, turns 463 years old

The Suleiman Mosque or Süleymaniye Mosque, which until 2019 was the largest mosque in Istanbul, turned 463 years old this week. Inaugurated on October 15, 1557 after 7 years of work, it was built on the third hill of the city by order of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent and designed by the Ottoman imperial architect Mimar Sinan.
