Turkey’s unemployment rate fell to 8.8%, down 0.4% from the previous month, according to official data for July released today by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) website.
According to the report presented on Tuesday by Turkey’s official statistical body, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in the Eurasian country fell to 8.8% of the labour force in July, down 0.4% compared to June, being 7% among men and 12.4% among women.
The unemployment rate is also 0.5 points lower than in July last year, when the unemployment rate stood at 9.3%. Thus, the number of unemployed people aged 15 and over in Turkey fell by 112,000 in July compared to the previous month, to 3.16 million.
At the same time, the number of employed persons in Turkey increased by 235,000 compared to June to 32.71 million, according to data presented by TÜİK, bringing the labour force participation rate to 54.4%.
As for the youth unemployment rate (corresponding to the 15-24 age group) it decreased by 1% compared to the previous month to 16.6%. The report also notes that the average weekly working time of workers in Turkey reached 42.5 hours.
