The well-known Turkish athlete Buse Tosun Çavuşoğlu, who won the bronze medal at the last Olympic Games in Paris, has been named by the United World Wrestling (UWW) as ‘Female Wrestler of the Year’, a title that highlights her achievements in the year 2024 that is about to end.
As reported by the Turkish news agency Anatolia, the athlete – who competes in the 68kg category – has stood out throughout 2024 for her exceptional sporting achievements; in addition to the bronze medal she won at the Paris Olympics, Çavuşoğlu – who also represented Turkey at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games – won her first European title last February by winning the gold medal at the European Wrestling Championships in Bucharest (Romania).
In 2023, she also won the gold medal at the World Championships in Belgrade (Serbia) in the same category.
Last year, the United World Wrestling had already named Buse Tosun Çavuşoğlu as the best emerging female wrestler of the year after she won the gold medal in Serbia. The 29-year-old athlete, from the Turkish province of Izmir, currently competes for Çiftlikköy Belediyespor of Yalova.
