A few days ago Turkey celebrated its first women’s motorcycle racing championship, organised last weekend in the province of İzmir and in which 20 women competed on their motorcycles in the SS300 category, many of them for the first time in her life professionally. “We have witnessed something new in Turkey. This is a first step that will lead more women to run,” declared the winner, İlayda Yağmur Yılmaz. The local press applauded the initiative with headlines such as “20 brave hearts.” Although there was no public due to the pandemic, famous former Turkish motorcycle racer Kenan Sofuoğlu attended the competition and gave advice to female riders.
