Turkish vehicle construction firm BMC announced this week that the decade-long project to create the Altay, the first battle tank designed and manufactured in Turkey, has now reached the mass-production phase and will be ready for its first tests next April 23. The tests with the Turkish army are expected to conclude in 2024, and its mass production will begin in 2025: initially with a South Korean engine and transmissions, and from the second half of 2026 with its own Turkish-designed engine. Several countries allied with Turkey have already shown interest in acquiring Altay units.
