Turkey won its first medal at the Olympic Games in the French capital Paris after the men’s archery team took bronze after defeating their Chinese rivals.
According to Turkish media reports, the team of Ulaş Berkim Tümer, Muhammed Abdullah Yıldırmış Abdullah and Olympic medallist Mete Gazoz claimed the first medal of the Paris 2024 Olympics yesterday after beating China – represented by Wenchao Kao, Zhongyuan Li and Yan Wang – 6-2 in the semi-finals, which they reached after previously defeating India‘s national Olympic team.
Mete Gazoz, 25, won her first medal at the 2017 world archery championships in Argentina. At the previous Olympics in Tokyo, Gazoz had already won the gold medal in the individual archery competition with a 4-6 win over his Italian rival Mauro Nespoli.
