After almost half a century exhibited at the Antalya Archaeological Museum, the Turkish archaeologist Havva İşkan Işık has discovered after conducting a scientific study that this ancient bust unearthed in the ruins of the city of Perge represents Safo, the famous Greek female poet from the 7th century B.C. which Plato himself defined as “the tenth Muse”. The statue has been exhibited since 1972 and was initially believed to represent the face of a man.
