Tourist visits to Turkey during the first seven months of the year surpassed the 30 million mark, increasing by 16.22% compared to the same period last year, according to data released today by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. A total of 30.09 million tourists visited Turkey from January to July, including 26.76 million foreign tourists and 3.32 million Turks living abroad who also visited Turkey.
Istanbul was the main tourist destination with 9.77 million tourists, 36.5% of the total, followed by the Mediterranean resort of Antalya with 7.7 million tourists, and Edirne – on the border between Turkey, Greece and Bulgaria – with 2.7 million visits. The large influx of tourists was driven by tourism from Europe, especially from Germany and the UK, in addition to arrivals from Russia, Bulgaria and Iran.
