A police officer was killed during an anti-drug operation in the Kağıthane district of Istanbul last night, following an exchange of gunfire that left several people injured. According to the Istanbul governor’s office, the suspects barricaded themselves in the building and began firing at police officers with pistols and long-range weapons.

“The exchange of fire that ensued resulted in the tragic loss of police officer Hakan Telli, who succumbed to his injuries despite receiving immediate medical attention,” the Istanbul governor said in a statement, adding that another policeman suffered serious injuries during the anti-drug operation and is currently in critical condition.
