Istanbul received more than 6 million tourists so far this year

Up to 6.3 million tourists visited Istanbul between January and May this year, according to data from the Istanbul Culture and Tourism Office, representing an increase of 19% over the same period in 2022. Russians were the largest group of tourists arriving in Istanbul, constituting 13.6% with 176,000 total arrivals, followed by Germans (117,000), Americans (84,000), Iranians (81,000), British (68,000), French (54,000) and Israelis ( 38,000). The Topkapı Palace, seat of the Ottoman sultans until the 19th century, the Great Mosque of Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque in Sultanahmet, the Grand Bazaar of Istanbul, or the Basilica Cistern, were some of the most visited places by tourists.
