Cappadocia is one of the main tourist destinations in Turkey, a region famous for its “fairy chimney”, its shaped rock formations, its rock monasteries, its underground cities… and its balloon tours. But how much does a balloon tour over Cappadocia cost? There are 27 companies that operate in the region and that every day take off about 100 balloons to fly over Cappadocia; according to balloon operators in the area themselves, the price of a balloon ride in Cappadocia starts from 100 euros, and from there it varies depending on the type of flight, the duration (which varies between 1h and 75 minutes) or the type of basket (which can carry from 20 to 28 passengers). The most expensive price for a balloon tour over Cappadocia can be up to 200, or even 300 euros.
There are many foreign tourists who come to this region of Turkey to live this experience, with more and more coming from Asian countries (South Korean, Chinese…), while this year the balloon operators in the area highlight a decrease in tourists from Latin America.
But these prices, unfortunately, are prohibitive for Turkish tourists, who also travel to Cappadocia: “We should have a special price for us. It is as if Cappadocia is only for foreign tourists. We want to get on a balloon… but normally, foreigners get on it, andTurks just watch,” explains Büşra, a tourist from the Turkish province of Sivas.
