Museum of Islamic Civilisations opens in Istanbul

Turkish president inaugurated on Friday the Museum of Islamic Civilisations in Istanbul, built next to the Great Çamlıca Mosque, the largest mosque in Turkey. The museum exhibits in an area of 10,000 square metres some 800 relics and historical artefacts dating back as far as 1,200 years in time in the history of Islam. Many of the pieces have never before been shown to the public: some come from Mecca and the early years of Islam, and some even belong to the Prophet Muhammad himself.
