Turkey has signed an agreement for the export of 1.5 billion cubic metres of natural gas to Romania, Turkey’s state-owned oil company BOTAŞ announced on Wednesday. The pact between the Turkish oil corporation and OMV Petrom – one of the largest energy companies in the region – provides for the export from Turkey of up to 4 million cubic metres of natural gas per day.
The agreement for the export of natural gas to Romania comes into force on October 1, and will in principle run until the first quarter of 2025, BOTAŞ said in a statement, highlighting its “contribution to the security and diversity of energy supplies in neighbouring markets and in Europe“. BOTAŞ, which also agreed with OMV Petrom to cooperate on storage, production and green energy technologies, has also signed agreements with Bulgaria and Hungary to export a total of almost 2 billion cubic metres of gas per year to these countries.
