Torrential rains cause severe flooding in Ankara

Torrential rains fell on the Turkish capital on Sunday, leaving severe flooding in Ankara, after days earlier heavy rains caused several deaths in the northern Black Sea region of the country. In Ankara, the rains – even accompanied by hail – flooded streets and highways, accumulating up to half a meter of water in some areas, unleashing traffic chaos. Several people had to be rescued when they were trapped by water inside their vehicles, although fortunately no serious personal injuries were reported. The weather forecast alerts that rains and storms will continue in the coming days in Ankara, and throughout central and western Turkey.
