Hatay, the gateway to the Mediterranean and Syria, has been one of the provinces most affected by the earthquakes that have struck southeastern Turkey, and which have so far caused some 7,000 deaths and nearly 40,000 injuries in 10 provinces of the region, knocking down thousands of buildings and leaving more than 400,000 people homeless.
