Turkey, Syrian pianist reunites with his family

Syrian pianist reunites with his refugee family in Turkey after 8 years

Adnan al-Asmar, a Syrian pianist who 8 years ago sent his family to Turkey to flee the civil war in Syria, while he stayed in Azaz “to give hope to the people with music”, received an exciting surprise on Friday during a concert offered in a refugee camp in the Turkish province of Kahramanmaraş, among whose audience was his sisters and his mother, whom he had not seen for years. “There are no words for this. I didn’t know he would be here when we were invited to the concert. I haven’t seen my son in years,” said his emotional mother. The emotional and unexpected reunion was organised by the Yunus Emre Institute of Turkey, which, knowing the story, organised the concert and the pianist’s trip to Turkey, and then located his family and invited them to the event.
