snow in Turkey

Snow arrives in Istanbul

Meteorologists’ prediction has come true and snow has arrived in Istanbul this morning after a drastic drop in temperatures of up to 10 degrees Celsius and night-time lows expected to fall below 0 degrees Celsius from Friday onwards, due to a cold snap from the Balkans.

The intermittent snowfall, accompanied by north-easterly winds of up to 70 km/h, has fallen this time in the highest parts of Istanbul, from the Aydos Forest on the Asian side of the city, to districts such as Beylikdüzü, Sultangazi, Sarıyer or Çatalca on the European side of the Turkish metropolis. So far the snow has not caused any major traffic problems in Istanbul, but the authorities have asked the population to take precautions.
