In the province of İzmir, the third most populous in Turkey located on the west coast of the country, the sea receded 25 meters in places like Seferihisar after the earthquakes that devastated southeastern Anatolia on Monday. Local residents, who still remember the consequences of the 6.6 earthquake that hit İzmir in October 2020 and that was followed by a tsunami, were frightened by the phenomenon and confirmed that the sea receded after the 7.8 and 7.6 quakes in Kahramanmaraş, which according to seismologists have raised the Anatolian peninsula by 10 meters.
