Several former Soviet republics grouped in the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO), led by Russia, continue to send thousands of troops to Kazakhstan, where President Tokayev has ordered to shoot “to kill” against protesters, described as terrorists and foreigners by the Kazakh and Russian governments. The protests, in which dozens of people have died, have spread through the old capital, Almaty, and other cities, where several public buildings have burned. Moscow have confirmed the dispatch of at least 70 planes with Russian troops to help the Kazakhstan police and army to regain control.
