French President Emmanuel Macron made an unprecedented visit to the neighbourhoods of Beirut, where he broke the security to approach to speak with the Lebanese who, desperate, asked him for help to end the corrupt political class in the country. In a gesture that no Lebanese politician would dare to make, Macron approached outraged citizens who asked him not only for help with reconstruction, but not to hand over the money to a corrupt political class that they blame for the explosion, and who has led the country into a serious economic crisis. “There will be a before and after August 4, 2020,” said Macron, who conditioned the aid to the creation of a unity government and far-reaching reforms in the country.
