Archaeologists excavating the Neolithic site of Karahantepe, discovered in 1997 and located in the Turkish province of Şanlıurfa, believe that this site could be older than Göbeklitepe, considered the oldest temple of mankind with 12,000 years old. So far some 250 “T” shaped obelisks similar to those found in Göbeklitepe, located about 50 kilometres to the west and declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, have been discovered in this archaeological site. If the discovery of Göbeklitepe has already revolutionised human history, Karahantepe could go further and shed new light on the origins of humanity.
