The average air temperature in Turkey last June reached 23°C, marking an increase of 1.2 degrees higher than the normal average for the season, set at 21.8°C for the period between 1991 and 2020, and thus making June 2025 the fourth warmest month in the last 55 years, according to experts.
According to data cited by Turkish media and compiled by the General Directorate of Meteorology, part of Turkey’s Ministry of Environment, Urban Planning and Climate Change, the average air temperature in June stood at 23 degrees Celsius; the lowest was recorded in the eastern province of Erzurum (-0.2 °C) while the highest was 45.6 °C in the Cizre district of Şırnak province, in southeastern Anatolia.
Temperatures in June were close to season average in places such as Kumköy, Sarıyer, Istanbul, Bozcaada, Bandırma, Yalova, Gönen, Akhisar, Dalaman, Antakya (Antioch) and Korkuteli, as well as in the Turkish Black Sea region, much of eastern Anatolia and inland Anatolian districts such as Ilgın, Karaman and Çumra. In the rest of Turkey, however, recorded temperatures were above the normal average for the season.
Lowest and highest temperatures by region
In the Mediterranean region almost all areas experienced abnormally high temperatures with the exception of Dalaman, Antakya, and Korkuteli. The lowest temperature was recorded in Göksun at 4.6°C, while the highest was 43°C in Dalaman.
In the Marmara region (the most populated region of the country), with the exception of Kumköy, Sarıyer, Istanbul, Bozcaada, Bandırma, Yalova and Gönen, thermometers in all other areas also recorded highs above the seasonal average. The lowest temperature was recorded in Balıkesir with 9.2°C, while the highest was detected in Lüleburgaz (province of Kırklareli, Turkish Thrace region) with 40.2°C.
In the touristic Aegean region on the west coast of Turkey, all areas except for the district of Akhisar in the province of Manisa experienced a warmer than normal June; in this region, the lowest temperature was detected last month in Simav (Kütahya) with 6.5°C, while the highest was recorded in Milas (Muğla), where thermometers reached 43.9 degrees Celsius.
