A team of 12 Japanese experts, in collaboration with officials from the Metropolitan City Council of the city of Bursa (northwestern Turkey), are working on a joint project to prevent and reduce risks in the event of an earthquake. During 42 months, the teams from both countries will determine the maximum intensity that earthquakes can reach in the region and develop detailed geological and seismic risk maps to determine which areas are most at risk of earthquake damage, and what measures should be taken in the short, medium and long term. The city of Bursa, the 4th most populous city in Turkey, is crossed by the southern branch of the North Anatolian Fault and is classified as high earthquake risk.
