Turkey’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has released new images of an Anatolian leopard, a subspecies that once inhabited the Middle Eastern region and was until recently believed to be completely extinct. Officially, the last specimen of the Anatolian leopard was killed in 1974 in a town in the province of Ankara; however, in recent years several farmers and biologists have claimed to have seen specimens of the animal, and in 2019 the presence of at least two males was confirmed. Currently, the Turkish authorities have confirmed its existence in at least 4 undisclosed regions of the country, and a special plan for its conservation has been launched.
