Turkey, immigrants beaten by Greece

Greece returns a group of naked and beaten immigrants to Turkey

Turkish border patrols located this morning a group of 42 immigrants who had been returned by Greece after crossing the border, with obvious signs of abuse and several of them naked after Greek police took off their clothes. The immigrants told the Turkish guards that the Greek patrols beat them, locked them up without food or water, stole their valuables, stripped them naked, and then forced them to cross back the Evros (Meriç, in Turkish) river that serves as border between both countries. Organisations such as HRW have denounced Greece’s routine practise of mistreating immigrants and returning them to Turkey, often beaten and naked, which has caused some to freeze to death in winter.
