Turkey, migrants abandoned by Greece rescued

6 migrants abandoned by Greece at sea die: 3 of them are children

6 migrants, including a woman and 3 children (two of them babies), died after being abandoned by Greek coastguards in the waters of the Aegean Sea, according to the Turkish Coast Guard after rescuing the survivors. The migrants, possibly of Lebanese origin and intending to reach Italy, asked the Greek authorities for help after their boat ran out of fuel near the Greek island of Rhodes, off the coast of Turkey. According to the testimonies of the survivors, the Greek coastguards put them on their boat, and after stealing all their valuables, they returned them to the sea near Turkish territorial waters, leaving them to be rescued by the Turkish coastguards: an illegal but frequent practice, that Turkey has been denouncing for years.
